Will camping season come early this year? Or are we in for six more weeks of winter?
A fun, annual tradition here in Balzac, we watched Balzac Billy, aka the Prairie Prognosticator, pop out of his burrow and see his shadow this morning.
As you may know, according to tradition, if a groundhog emerges on February 2nd to a cloudy day and doesn’t see his shadow, then spring will arrive early. If the morning is sunny, and the groundhog sees its shadow, that means six more weeks of winter are on the way. So it looks like winter’s not over yet!
Before you get too upset and start cancelling your March camping plans, take comfort knowing that an Environment Canada study found that groundhogs have only been correct about 37 per cent of the time.
Thanks to the Balzac Business Community Association for hosting such a great Groundhog Day Breakfast.
