As the fall approaches and camping season winds down, it is time to start thinking about how to store your RV for the winter. Your RV is a big investment, so it is important to take steps to protect it! In this article, our expert parts team answers all your questions about covering your motorhome, travel trailer, or fifth wheel.
Why do I need to cover my RV?
RV covers protect your RV against three damaging elements: moisture, UV light, and wind. UV light is very damaging to paint, decals, plastic components, rubber seals, and tires causing cracking and dry rot. Moisture is a big enemy of RV owners. Prolonged exposure to moisture can cause water to wick into your RV at joints, seams, roof lines, and windows. Of course, proper sealing is the best precaution against water damage, but a cover adds another layer of protection. It is important to note RV covers are not designed to be waterproof, as they are made of a breathable material. They block a large amount of moisture, but do not create an impervious barrier. Covers also offer protection against wind that can catch vent lids, antennas, and even blow abrasive debris against your RV.
Why should I buy an ADCO RV cover?
Here at Bucars, we put a lot of effort into researching the very best products to offer our customers in our store. ADCO is one of the most reputable brands of RV covers – they have sold over 30 million covers! When they launched the newest UV Hydro line of premium covers, they did so with our Alberta climate in mind. These sturdy covers stand up to moisture, wind, and UV light, yet are breathable. ADCO covers come with an industry-leading 3-year warranty, all handled by Bucars.
Are RV covers difficult to put on?
Covering your RV can be a daunting task, but with a ladder, a helper, and a bit of practice, you will be a pro in no time! In addition to protective pads to cover sharp points such as rain gutters, ADCO covers are designed with cinch straps and buckles to ensure a snug fit.
Why can’t I just use a tarp to cover my RV?
It is not recommended to cover your RV with a tarp because it does not breath. Tarps can trap moisture, which leads to dangerous mould! Other reasons include the abrasive texture of tarps, and lack of proper fastening methods.
How do I know what size of RV cover I need?
ADCO makes covers for every type of RV including class A/diesel pushers, Class C, Class B/conversion vans, travel trailers, pop-ups, fifth wheels, toy haulers, and even truck campers! RV covers are somewhat adjustable and designed to fit a range of lengths, however it is important to physically measure your RV for proper fit and not rely on the model number of your floorplan. When you measure, include the entire length of the trailer body plus any accessories such as the ladder, propane bottles, spare tire, etc but do not include the A-frame tongue of the trailer.
