You’ve been humming and hawing about buying a new RV for ages but you have yet to pull the trigger. Does this sound like you? We get it! Buying a new RV is a big investment and it can be hard to decide when the time is right to finally make the purchase.
Maybe you already have an RV and are considering an RV upgrade or maybe you’re thinking about upgrading from tenting and buying your first RV. Either way, we know you’re staring longingly at the new RV models and dreaming about the adventures you could take!
For this article, we asked the RV experts at Bucars RV when they think it’s time for an RV upgrade. We’re sharing their answers in the following sections to help you decide if it’s the right time for you to invest in a new RV. Keep reading to see if any of their suggestions apply to you!
When Should I Buy A New RV?
“Your current unit is costing you more money than you’d like for repairs.”
If you’ve spent more time fixing your RV than actually getting out and using it, it’s probably time for an RV upgrade. Older RVs are more prone to mechanical issues causing them to break down more frequently. The last thing you want before heading out on your camping adventure is to discover that your RV needs repairs. This could put a serious dent in your vacation plans!
RV repairs can also be very costly. Does your wallet hurt from all the money you’ve been spending on repairing your old RV? Now is a great time to upgrade before you pour any more money into repairs.
Keep in mind that a well-maintained RV can often last many years without any major issues or need for significant repairs. If you’ve kept your RV in great shape, you can probably get through more great camping seasons before you’ll need an upgrade. However, it may still be time for an upgrade even if your RV is in good working condition. We’ll discuss the reasons why it might still be time to invest in a new RV in the following sections!
“Your lifestyle has changed and your current floor plan is no longer a perfect fit.”
There are tons of lifestyle changes that could mean it’s time for an RV upgrade. Did your family grow and now your old RV doesn’t have enough beds or space? Did your kids move away from home and now you want to downsize (or upgrade!) to a different model? Did your family take on a new hobby like four-wheeling and now you need space to pack your quads? Any of the scenarios are great reasons to invest in a new RV!
Camping with an RV that is wrong for your lifestyle is like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Purchasing a new RV can improve your entire camping experience. You’ll have the flexibility to get an RV that matches your current lifestyle so you can start enjoying your camping adventures to the fullest.
“Your spouse/significant other refuses to go RVing in your current RV.”
For most people, RVing is not a solo activity. Camping is always better when you can enjoy it with the people you love! This means that if your spouse or significant other hates your current RV, it’s definitely worth considering an upgrade. When everyone is happy, your whole camping trip will be a much more enjoyable experience. And that’s the whole point of camping, right?
“The RV was constructed when disco was popular.”
See also: “There is wall to wall shag carpet even in the bathroom”, “Fellow RV’ers suggest you donate your trailer to a museum”, and “You have no fear that anyone will ever steal it.” Don’t get us wrong, there’s absolutely a time and a place for retro RVs. For some people, an RV with wall to wall shag carpet is the dream. However, it’s definitely not everyone’s style.
If you’re embarrassed to take your RV out on the road, it might be time for an upgrade. As we discussed above, your camping experience is supposed to be enjoyable! A new RV could help you fall in love with RVing all over again.
When Should I Buy My First RV?
Now we’re going to cover when it’s time to make the switch from tenting to your first RV. Some people adore the tenting experience, but for others it can be a real pain. It’s hard to fit all of your camping supplies in your car, it can be super cold (or hot!),storing food in a cooler can be a pain, sleeping on the ground can be very uncomfortable, and it’s difficult to take spontaneous camping trips!
Let’s see what our RV experts had to say about when you should ditch the tenting life and splurge on your first RV.
“You want the freedom to get up and go camping at a moment’s notice.”
As we briefly discussed above, tenting can make it super tricky to go camping on a whim. It requires a lot of careful planning before you can head out on your trip.
On the other hand, RVs give you the flexibility to hit the road spontaneously! Most people store a second set of dishes, towels, bedding, and many other supplies in their RV so they don’t have to repack everything for each and every trip. This means that a lot of the supplies you need for your camping trip will be already packed! Just make a pit stop at a grocery store on your way and you should be mostly good to go!
“Covid restrictions have you confined. Get yourself a home on wheels!”
At this point, most of us are feeling the brunt of the pandemic and going a bit stir crazy. Luckily, RVing is one of the few truly COVID-safe activities! You get to travel and enjoy the beautiful outdoors while keeping your distance from others and staying healthy. In a recent blog post, we shared how one of our high-risk RV experts decided to RV during the pandemic. Check it out!
“Your friends and family go RVing and you feel like you’re missing out!”
If you feel like you’re missing out when your friends and family go RVing, you probably are! RV trips have a way of bringing people together. It’s a great way to travel with other groups of people and to spend time with the people you love.
RV campgrounds are practically designed for bonding! Many have additional recreational amenities such as pools or sports courts, there are almost always playgrounds for kids to play on, and a big group bonfire is the perfect way to connect with others. If everyone you know is bonding on RV trips without you, this is a great reason to dive into the RV lifestyle.
“You’ve always wanted to get in on the RV lifestyle.”
For some people RVing has just always been a dream of theirs. If this sounds like you, we don’t blame you! RVing has tons of great benefits that make it an ideal form of travel for many people. Here are some of the benefits of RV travel:
- It’s more cost-effective than other forms of travel
- It gives you a lot of flexibility for your vacations
- It helps you connect with nature (while also giving you a comfortable place to sleep!)
- And much more!
If RVing has always sounded like a dream, you should definitely make that dream a reality. We’re willing to bet you won’t regret it!
