Ghost Reservoir Campground
If you’re looking for the best camping near Calgary, you can’t go wrong with Ghost Lake Campground.
This smaller, non-serviced campground just outside Cochrane is close to the lake and is perfect for both boating and windsurfing.
Having visitors join the camping fun is great and convenient, as it’s only 40 km from Calgary.
Gooseberry Campground
If you are a newer camper, you might be worried about break-downs and mishaps. At Gooseberry Campground, you are not too far in the bush and close enough to run into Bragg Creek only 15 minutes south of the campground if needed.
The sites in this provincial campground start with full hook-ups and graduate all the way to tent sites. There’s something for every comfort level and experience, which allows beginner campers to learn the ins and outs of camping without being too far removed from town.
Gooseberry has full pull-through sites for large motorhomes and riverside sites, where you hear the babbling of the brook beside you. Love it there!
Rustic River Resort
This private campground in the Rocky Mountain House Area is one of the best RV parks in Alberta.
Located on the shores of the North Saskatchewan River, the large campground has sites with power and water hook-ups. There are many seasonal sites and plenty for booking a full week or a weekend. The campsites are fairly private and surrounded by lots of trees.
The office has a small store with bathroom facilities and an outdoor pool. The campground also offers a general store, a liquor store, a fully stocked campsite kitchen, and lots of opportunities to go fishing, boating, and swimming in the river.
A very relaxing and family-friendly campground 25 km north of Rocky Mountain House, but easy to get to.
Crimson Lake Provincial Park
Crimson Lake is a nice provincial park with a lot of smaller sites close to the lake.
It has powered sites, a campground store, laundry, and a playground. Enjoy everything the beautiful park has to offer from relaxing on the large beach to boating on the lake or hiking.
A very nice getaway only 2 hours from Calgary.
Wilderness Village Resort
Just down the road from Crimson Lake Provincial Park is Wilderness Village Resort, another excellent private campground, only 15 km north of Rocky Mountain House.
The RV resort offers sites with power and water hook-ups, access to heated pools and hot tubs on-site, laundry, a convenience store, a large playground, and a basketball court.
You can also have fun at the great-sized petting zoo with all kinds of animals and horseback riding. Fun for not only kids but adults too!
Fernie RV Resort
Fernie RV Resort is very well-maintained. The bathrooms are immaculate, grass well-manicured, and there is a constant buzz of grounds staff keeping everything clean and tidy.
This classy campground even has a bike wash and is conveniently located across from a golf course in the heart of Fernie. It is just a GREAT place to enjoy mountain biking in the Rockies – only 3 hours from Calgary.
After a day of mountain biking, there’s nothing like kicking back and relaxing with a cold beer. Luckily, the near-by Fernie Brewing Co can provide excellent brews for your camping trip. We recommend the Big Caboose Red Ale!
