Paddy’s Flat Campground (Kananaskis)
The Paddy’s Flat Campground in Kananaskis Country is one of the best campgrounds within an hour of Calgary. Only 45 minutes away, this campground has everything a weekend camper could want and more!
Paddy’s Flat is located on Highway 66 and is close to some of the best mountain biking trails in Alberta and one of the most popular off-road vehicle areas as well. This little pocket of the forest is like a stairway to the rocky mountains and everything that K-Country has to offer! This is definitely one of the best local camping spots for Calgarians.
For avid cyclists that are camping here, the West Bragg Creek trail network is incredible for cross country mountain biking, hiking and fat biking in the wintertime. You’ll find beautiful ribbons of flowing single-track and incredible views of the area on these trails.
For the thrill-seekers out there, Moose Mountain also offers an incredible selection of more technical downhill and enduro-style trails. At the top of these trails, you’ll get an incredible view of the Rockies and have the opportunity to sample some of the best jumps and drops in Alberta.
If you’re an offroad vehicle enthusiast, the McLean Creek Offroad Area has a number of trails for you to get out on your dirtbike, ATV, side-by-side, or any other off-road vehicle. This area has some of the most interesting and challenging terrain in Alberta. For those that are starting out, the area also has a number of beginner and intermediate trails that are fun for the whole family.
Paddy’s Flat Campground is a great place to stay if you want to enjoy everything that Kananaskis country has to offer. There’s something for everyone here in this stairway to the Rocky Mountains. If you like fishing, mountain biking, off-road vehicles, hiking, or just getting out of town to relax, this is some of the best camping within an hour of Calgary.
Fernie RV Resort
Fernie RV Resort is one of the newest RV resorts in Western Canada. This beautiful new campground is one of the most scenic RV resorts we have ever seen. Ghost Lake Campground
This beautiful reservoir lake is only 15 minutes from the city of Cochrane. This lake may be a short drive, but the beautiful landscape and the massive lake make it a great weekend camping spot for RVer’s that want to live the lake life for a weekend.
The campground at Ghost Lake is situated right on the water’s edge, and provides a stunning view of the lake and the Rocky Mountains close by. Located on the side of Highway 1A, the commute to this mountain lake is one of the most scenic drives in the province. You’ll get a stunning tour of the rugged rocky mountains when traveling to this campground.
If you enjoy sailing, powerboating, water skiing, wakeboarding, or paddleboarding, this campground is a great place to come for a weekend and spend some time on the water. If water sports don’t interest you, it’s a 30-minute drive to Canmore, a beautiful mountain town. If you’re looking for an incredible alpine hike, it’s a 25-minute drive to the Yamnuska Ridge trailhead.

Mountain bike enthusiasts rejoice. Canmore’s Nordic Centre trails and mountain bike skills park boast kilometers of amazing trails for all skill levels and a 2000 square meter facility for riders to hone their skills and practice jumping.
If you’re looking to do some hiking, there are multiple hikes in the area for you to enjoy. From Grassi lakes to Ha Ling Peak, there’s a hike for everyone from a variety of different skill sets to enjoy the wonderful views.
