It’s been a long winter, but we’re finally starting to see more of the sun around Calgary! Now that we’re experiencing some spring-like temperatures, it’s time to take your RV out of storage and dewinterize it because camping season is right around the corner.
If you are looking to have your RV dewinterized, bring it to the expert technicians at Bucars RV, during our drive-thru dewinterizing event on Saturday, May 11th. You won’t need to unhook or even leave your vehicle; it’s that fast and easy! Simply drive into our service parking area and leave the rest to us.
To book an appointment to have your RV dewinterized, please call or text 403-207-1666. Our dewinterization service for travel trailers starts at just $99.
After a long winter like the one we just had, many RVers around here are excited to get their RV’s ready and head out camping. The number of spaces available are limited for our drive-thru dewinterization special, so please book your appointment as soon as possible to reserve your spot.
With that being said, there are a few things you should check on your trailer before you pull it out of your RV storage to bring it to our dewinterizing event. Here are some things for RVer’s to check in order to ensure that this season goes off without a hitch! Or maybe with one, if you know what we mean.
Spring RV Maintenance Checklist
People often forget to check the tire pressure on their RV. If your RV has been sitting in storage over the winter, the tires have probably lost some air, or they may have even gone flat if they have a slow leak. It’s important to ensure your tires are correctly inflated for your own safety before heading out on the road.
Low tires on your RV can cause uneven or premature tire wear, poor handling when towing, or even cause a tire to blowout. We want to avoid that at all costs. Inflate your tires according to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure chart for the weight of your RV.
The next thing to check is the condition of your RV’s tires. It’s important to check the tread depth of your tires to ensure that they are safe for the road, and still have some usable life. If you have a tread depth gauge, simply insert it between the treads of the tires to get a reading. If you don’t, you can use a nickel as a guide. If you insert a nickel between the treads of your tires and you can see the top of the queen’s head, your tires are worn out, and you should replace them.
Another important thing to check for is weather checking on your tires. Weather checking is where small cracks form on the sidewalls or the base of the treads on your tires. These small cracks are a sign of deterioration. If they are severe enough, they could cause a tire to blowout at some point as you’re going down the road. Generally speaking, this is something that happens to older tires but it’s still something to be conscious of.
Given that your RV has probably been sitting outside for some time, it’s probably time to give it a wash. While you’re washing your RV, check for any exterior damage that may have occurred during the winter.
Things to check for:
If you’re in need of RV cleaning products, the parts department at Bucars RV has a number of different cleaning solutions available. From regular light soaps to rubber roof cleaners, Bucars has everything you need to make your RV squeaky clean and looking brand new again.
It’s also important to clean the interior of your RV before you head out for your first camping trip of the year. While cleaning the interior of your RV, it’s important to inspect for any signs of damage to prevent costly repairs. Keep an eye out for any leaks or signs of discolouration in the walls or ceiling. These are signs that a seal may be in need of repair and should be addressed before any significant damage occurs.
This is also a good opportunity to air out your RV, check for any spider webs, pesky rodents or other things that may have gotten in over the winter. If you find something inside your RV that shouldn’t be in there, it could be a sign that there is a seal or opening in your RV that needs to be repaired.
Batteries are important! Even if you like camping off the grid and roughing it, it’s still nice to be able to use some of the power options in your RV from time to time. Ensuring your batteries and electrical systems are operational is a critical part of RV maintenance.
When sitting in storage, batteries can often lose their charge and run into other issues over the winter. Depending on where your RV storage is, you may or may not be able to keep your RV batteries on a trickle charger over the winter depending on if there is power or not. Batteries can freeze up or go dead causing them to either cease to operate or lose some of their efficiency. The service experts at Bucars RV can check your batteries and ensure they are ready for your next big RV adventure.
