Get out and reconnect as a family with a fun and snow-filled Family Day weekend! Here are a few of the great events happening at Alberta Parks around the province.

Have a Family Fishing Experience

If you enjoy ice fishing, or are considering trying it out, this Family Day weekend is also an Alberta Family Fishing Weekend. This twice-yearly event invites everyone to give fishing a try on waterbodies with open fishing seasons, no fishing licence required.

Visit My Wild Alberta to read up on current Alberta sportfishing regulations and find a stocked lake near you.

Spend the Weekend atWilliam A. Switzer Provincial Park

William A. Switzer Provincial Park has a full calendar of events this Family Day weekend, so why not take the RV and set out for a weekend of family fun? Year-round camping is available in the park, with both serviced and unserviced sites, and the visitor centre is open so you can rent snowshoes, borrow toboggans, and get the latest trail information for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or fat biking.

You can participate in the Alberta Family Fishing Weekend, go on a guided Family Day snowshoe walk, or join the cross-country ski loppet. At the Hinton Nordic Centre you’ll find the Bonhomme Carnaval, Hinton’s Annual French Culture Festival. From 12pm to 4pm on February 17th, enjoy traditional French music, food and fun activities.

Ice Fish at Castle Provincial Park

Also participating in the Alberta Family Fishing Weekend, Castle Provincial Park will be hosting free Family Day ice fishing events on February 16thand 17th. Taking place at the Beaver Mines Boat Launch day use area, learn to ice fish from 10am-4pm, join a Fat Biking Basics class, and then warm up around a campfire.

Camp at Crimson Lake Winterfest

A fun Family Day weekend tradition, head up to the Crimson Lake Winterfest for a weekend of outdoor fun and entertainment. Take in a snowshoe or ice fishing demonstration, check out the local vendor market, go skating, or hit the trails for cross-country skiing and fat biking. There will be first-come, first-served winter camping sites at a reduced rate of $20 per night.
