Hi there, I’m JC Mcleod and I’m with Bucars RV Centre.
Today we’re going to talk a little bit more about protecting your investment. Surge protectors, we all think about getting them for our TVs, but we rarely think about getting them for our RV’s. So what we’re going to compare today is our basics versus our more advanced surge protectors and what would suit you best.
Now, our basic surge protectors are designed for your common ups and downs that you get in the larger RV parks. So, if you have a brownout or a surge, the basic surge protectors are a great cost-effective way to actually look after your RV. But if you’re looking for something a little bit more advanced that’s going to protect your investment a little bit better, that’s when we jump up into the larger surge protectors. These have a higher joules rating which means they can protect you against a lightning strike even and they have more advanced diagnostics. They’ll be telling you when you have a surge, when you have a drop-off or a brownout and what the current status and time delay is on it. The only problem with going with this style is they are portable they are plugged into the pillar outside and your RV plugs into it so, unfortunately, does make it a little bit more vulnerable to theft. My personal preference is going with the hardwired version. Now, the hardwired versions do everything that the portables do but they’re locked away inside your storage compartment so we don’t have to worry about theft. With the labor involved putting this in there, they are more expensive but you don’t ever have to think about them and really that’s the basics of surge protection.
One way or another whether you go basic or more advanced, you just should consider any form of surge protection.
